Getting Started With Your Conveyor System – Handy Info to Have Ready
Posted on
If you need a custom conveyor system for material handling, machine building, food and beverage processing, manufacturing, packaging, or other industrial applications, mk North America is the right conveyor manufacturer to make your needs into a reality. If you want your turnover time to be as fast and efficient as possible, it helps our engineers to have the following information ready so they can get right to work on your design.
Required Length of Conveyor
This crucial piece of information determines not only the conveyors dimensions, but the weight of the belt or chain, and how much power the drive motor needs.
Material to be Transported
A conveyor designed for steel machine components is obviously going to have different requirements than one for use with feather dusters. The weight and density of the transport material has a huge bearing, along with the length of the conveyor, on the necessary drive motor power.
Necessary Speed of Transport
The faster the conveyer needs to be, the more powerful its motor, and the less steep its angle (steep angles and high speeds are a good way to get a safety hazard).
Elevation/Height
This, combined with the length, will establish the angle that the conveyor system will need to be assembled at. Combined with the nature of the material being transported, this affects the ideal conveyor type. For instance, a heavier material transported over a steeper system would be better suited for a cleated belt conveyor than a flat top chain conveyor.
Width of Belt/Chain/Etc.
This will be affected by the materials to be transported (bigger items need a wider belt), and will also affect the kind of conveyor best suited to your needs. A flat belt might work well for a narrower conveyor, but for something wider it might be too prone to tears and other damage.
While these are far from the only factors that will go into the design and creation of your custom conveyor system, this is a good place for us to start. When you get in touch we’ll be sure to ask everything we need to know to make the best conveyor system possible to suit each of your specific needs.
